The fifth-largest city in New Mexico would be unremarkable if it were not for alleged events of July 1947 when a flying saucer reportedly crashed nearby. Although the reported crash site was 120km away, the debris from the crash (which was reported to be a weather balloon) were processed at Roswell’s army base. Conspiracy theories abound as to the actual events and the incident has been mentioned in numerous books, TV shows and magazines. Nowadays, Roswell continues to milk the incident for all it is worth by billing itself as the UFO capital of America and it attracts scores of UFO buffs who come to eat at the UFO-themed McDonalds, and visit the UFO museum and the annual UFO Festival, which is held every July.
